GCSE and A Level students are being offered a unique day of inspirational speakers, hands-on exhibits, and the chance to talk to real life engineers about fulfilling careers in engineering.
Engineering is often exclusively associated with oily rags and nuts and bolts, and while there is an element of truth in that, it is not the whole truth. Any modern definition of engineering must now also include everything from space exploration to creating brand new electronic products.
The Engineering Your Future event organised by Biztech technology forum at Milton Keynes College on October 25, 2018 will help young students and adult career changers open their eyes and minds to the possibilities.
There is no better time to consider a career in engineering. Huge skills shortages are forecast for many professions, across a wide array of sectors.
This may well be the best time for young people, boys and girls, men and women, to be inspired by engineering. This event, a part of the national Year of Engineering, will give students a break from the media’s obsession with fame, football, and fashion, and point them instead towards a realistic, fulfilling and well-rewarded career choice.
The morning sessions are focused at informing and enthusing GCSE and A Level students, with a keynote talk, "Hands on challenges", the sharing of first hand experiences and details of the routes into engineering. As well as interaction with exhibitors, there will be two sessions in the afternoon. In the first exhibitors will be talking about the opportunities for engineers within their businesses and the sort of role they can expect to play.
In the second session we are forming a panel of a few exhibitors plus some representatives from higher and further education to talk about the recruitment challenges facing companies and how the different communities can work better together to overcome them. #
