GDPR update – What SME’s need to know
With just weeks to go until the new GDPR privacy laws come into force, Biztech technology forum is giving businesses in the Milton Keynes region what could be the last chance to make sure they take appropriate action.
Since Biztech’s first GDPR event in May 2017 an industry has grown up around the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), and a number of myths have grown up around what the new laws mean.
Andy Chesterman, the Data & Compliance Director at DAMM Solutions, will be joined by his colleague, Vicky Owens, Legal Consultant to set the record straight about GDPR at a Biztech / UCMK Ask the Expert event in Central Milton Keynes on Tuesday, March 20.
Andy has been working in the marketing sector for nearly 20 years and Vicky was previously Data Protection Officer at EasyJet – both are members of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). Andy said: “I’ve heard everything from “it doesn’t affect us” to marketers needing double opt-in confirmation for their email marketing, and I am on a mission to make sure the truth gets out there.
Vicky added: “Businesses have to make sure they have policies and procedures in place, for example, what employees need to know, the importance of suppliers and what you need to be able to prove to be compliant when the regulations come into force in May this year.”

The evening event will also hear from a Milton Keynes company Document Logistix, who has already helped a number of clients implement GDPR policies and procedures. Tickets cost £15 pls VAT for members and £18 plus VAT for non-members and include light refreshments.
