The Biztech BrightSparc Award for Best Academic-led Collaboration celebrates links between academia and the commercial sector across the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) area.
Presented by Andrew Carr, the chief commercial officer at Digital Catapult, this award recognises an innovative idea that is being taken into the commercial arena, led by academics.
The winner has been able to clearly demonstrate that they have identified the commercial opportunities underlying the idea. They demonstrated how they identified potential commercial partners and convinced them of the idea's potential.
The judges said: "The winner, Milton Keynes College and their commercial partners, Mirus IT, are a good example of thoughtful and beneficial collaboration. In creating their in-house support desk for students in the IT and computing area, they are solving support issues and offering free software to students, as well as training young people in key customer service skills. Their submission also demonstrated further opportunity to develop into a more complete and external commercial offering."
