Red Bull Racing and Railcare Reveal Key to High Performance and Teamwork Success

18 September 2010 @ 11:30 am - 18 October 2010 @ 11:30 am BST

From the pressures of winning Formula 1 races to inspiring over 440 employees as one of the leading UK based rolling stock maintenance and repair organisations, local businesses gained an insight into Performance Teamwork and Quality at an event organised by Biztech, a leading technology forum in the city.
Guest speakers Steve Nevey, Business Development Manager at Red Bull Racing and Robert Baxter, Managing Director, Railcare Limited highlighted their experiences of aiming forhigh performance within these two diverse but ambitious Milton Keynes based businesses.

Steve Nevey highlighted Red Bull Racing’s dramatic progress from its foundation as Stewart Grand Prix, through Jaguar ownership, to the present day, as current F1 championship leaders.  He hinted that clear goals and investing in the right people and resources are crucial.  This was evident during a subsequent
Biztech tour of the facilities at Red Bull Racing. So were key individuals responsible for high performance within organisations or are other factors at play?  Guests saw for themselves that ambitions for world championship glory at Red Bull Racing did not rest exclusively with the drivers but across a workforce that now exceeds five hundred.
The pressure and responsibility of directing resources and coordinating teamwork into delivering high performance and ultimate race results lay with Team Principal Christian Horner.
Horner’s foresight in recruiting engineers and designers with championship pedigree, coupled with the desire of his two drivers to win their first ever world championship has certainly enhanced the team’s aspirations in 2010.
Away from motorsport, Robert Baxter of Railcare argued for clarity of objectives when striving for high performance, “Overcoming the impression that this was ‘just another management initiative’ from a sceptical workforce was crucial.”
He cited enablement as key and continued, “We are currently starting to capitalise on our excellent results and are in the strongest position we could be in to thrive in these difficult times. Less firefighting is allowing managers to spend the necessary time on real issues.”
He then invited the Biztech audience to a special tour of Railcare Wolverton, home of the Royal train since the time of Queen Victoria to learn more.  To secure your place on the visit on 14 October and for further information on Biztech and its role as a leading business and technology forum visit www.biztech.org.uk.
