Cranfield University Precision Engineering Institute
This Biztech showcase visit to Cranfield University will feature a tour of cutting edge work taking place at one of the region’s foremost innovation hubs.
Our evening tour on Thursday, November 27, will be kindly hosted by Cranfield University’s Professor Paul Shore, the McKeown Professor of Ultra Precision at the Manufacturing and Materials Department in the School of Applied Sciences.
You will get the opportunity to see and ask questions about machines and systems that make NASA space telescope mirrors, some solar thermal power systems, some fusion reactor lenses, and a micro parts fabrication facility for medical devices.
You will also be able to see the Watch It Made studio where the university sparks the creativity of 12 year olds by encouraging them to design, fabricate and assemble watches.
Professor Paul Shore is focused on research into ultra precision machines and processes up to PhD level. His expertise is in manufacturing, precision engineering, ultra precision technologies and nano engineering.
He’s involved in the design and development of precision machines that enable the realisation of effective production of emerging products and science through unrivalled levels of accuracy and output.
